Bluestone - The Anti-Clydes

Had a very decent dinner at Bluestone in Timonium Friday. Appetizer of "Stone" shrimp (shrimp served in a bread bowl with mushrooms and garlic cream sauce -- excellent). Entrees of mahi mahi and salmon, served in a lemon buerre blanc with mixed vegetables.

After an auspicious start at getting us drinks and our appetizer, however, our waiter vanished for the rest of the evening. We were tucked in a corner booth, and were just forgotten -- no offers for more drinks, no refills on our water glasses, and I had asked for a sun dried tomato and corn orzo for a side, but got rice instead. Unfortunately, no one checked back on us so that I could ask for my orzo.

After finishing the meal, I sat there for ten minutes, growing irritated. A waiter (not ours) came up and took my plate away, but didn't offer to take Katy's even though she had clearly finished.

After another 10 minutes I got up and went to the hostess booth and asked for a manager. One was actually standing there, and was extremely apologetic. She said that our waiter was having trouble with a table of 14 that was running him ragged, but allowed as how that was no excuse. As a result, when she brought the bill she had comped us for our drinks and appetizer, and gave us a $30 gift certificate for our next visit on top of it. Counting all that, our cost was $10 for the meal, not including tip.

Our waiter came by and also apologized, and said that he hoped we would return and not hold the poor service against them.

Stuff happens, but this is how a restaurant should behave when things go wrong. I was extremely impressed with how they handled the situation. I forgave them, and tipped 20% of what the bill would have been without the comped items. I will definitely return.
