Blue Marlin certainly rocks

CulverJack | Sep 8, 200504:02 PM

Went to Blue Marlin for lunch yesterday for the first time, based on recs from this board. I left very happy!

Had the Pork Cutlet entree, and it was fantastic. Started with salad and miso soup (included) and liked both. The pork was simply great - wonderfully crisp, deep brown crust (it is fried, for those wondering, and fried makes most things good) with great flavor from the pork (the menu cites special black pigs used for this). The cutlet is stuffed with mushrooms and a few more elements (japanese herbs, perhaps) and that part added a nice counterpoint but the fried meat is the show, folks. I ordered the pork with ponzu, and had them bring a side of the demi glace, which they did, no problem. Both were good, ponzu very citrusy and the demi glace quite sweet.

I had most of the demi glace with the rice, and went with the ponzu for the cutlet and the fresh, steamed veggies that came with.

Healthy lunch, outside of the "fried" bit, and excellent. Nice quiet place to eat alone in the post-lunch hour afternoon, too. I'll be back, with friends next time. I do have them. Really. Just not that day.
