Went to Black Pearl on Saturday evening and while it wasn't a total disappointment, I definitely don't think it is worth the hype.
Some of the food was very good. The calamari was tender and the marinara sauce was flavorful. The clam strips were as good as I've had. Very fresh. The french fries were also good. The biggest disappointment though was the lobster roll. I would describe it as "fine" but it didn't hold a candle to other lobster rolls I have had...didn't even come close. There was plenty of meat but it was overcooked and chewy. The roll wasn't fresh, and it was just lackluster.
The service is interesting, 1/2 of our food was brought to the wrong table (and then the waitress tried to take it away from them after they had already started eating), the waitress wasn't afraid to curse out the other waiter in front of us, but I get what the place is supposed to be...it's not trying to be a high end place.
I wouldn't say this place is not good, I just don't think it is worth all the buzz that it's gotten. I would go back for appetizers and beer but not for a meal, and definitely not for the lobster roll.
