Went to Bistro Verdu Friday night for a quick dinner before a movie. While good, everything just slightly missed (which is a contrast to the previous visits). My lamb appetizer and my wife's NY steak both came out slightly overcooked, while my paella was much more of a saffron risotto with fish/shellfish/andouille added at the end. The flourless chocolate torte was outstanding though.
This might have been partly the result of the chef/owner being occupied with preparations for a weekend of renovating to prepare for the restaurant's recipe of its impending liquor license. So for those of you who have been waiting to try it while it's no corkage BYOB, those days may be numbered. I look forward to seeking what wines they carry, and I'm hopeful they will be smart enough to provide some high value by the carafe or by the glass offerings - with the flood of execellent lowpriced Spanish and southern French wines out there, and even a few CA wines fitting that description, it seems doable.
