My birthday week's outings.

I just wanted to chat a bit about my birthday week's meals. The nice thing about having friends is that they are always willing to take one out to dinner for one's birthday and I feel blessed.

I started the first day having a birthday luncheon with colleages from my department at TalayThai on Cote-de-Neige. I had the Chicken in Green Curry with green beans and bamboo shoots and the fried bananas because my fave-- Shrimp in Red Curry with freash pineapples, wasn't the special of the day.

Last night, I took my friends to Chez Bong on St. Laurent where we had the very delicious crispy pork and chive dumplings, the fantastic Korean Crepe, and tasty fried calamari as appetizers. The dumplings were among the best I've had in a long time and the crepe was amazing, light and fluffy, not doughy like some other restaurants that I've tried, studded with sweet peppers and shrimp.

The main dishes were very good, the soup with codfish; a charcoal-grilled Bulgogi that was multi-dimensional with a lovely hint of smoke; Jap Chae, a sweet potato noodle dish but the noodles looked more like bean thread; stewed octopus; and a tofu dish with hot sake to drink. Everything was so tasty and my friends were happy with the restaurant.

After dinner I dragged everyone to Caffe in Gamba on Parc for best espresso, moka, and cappacino they've ever had in town and to accompany the coffees I gave everyone my home-made sugarplums to munch on... the Portugese Sugarplums which are a stuffed smyrna fig filled with chopped dark chocolate and chopped almond and lightly baked to melt the chocolate into the chopped almonds, then dusted with powdered sugar before being wrapped in fancy foil.

I can hardly wait to see which restaurant my neighbour intends to take me to tonight, maybe I'll be lucky and we'll end at at the Ganges since it's within walking distance of home...mmm, I can already smell the fresh-baked nan and spices. Then it's off to Kam Fung for dim sum tomorrow with another group. Hmmm, I wonder if I can survive this caloric-laden week.

Thanks for letting me muse about my birthday week.
