did a mini sandwich crawl. went to big tummy's in glassel park/glendable border for a turkey sub and it was pretty darn good in the way that we imagine a hero/grinder/sub/hoagie to taste like if not made by a chain place, which is to say a delicious though rough and tumble sandwich. also, curiously on the menu are kabobs and kabob sandwiches with ground beef or chicken. they also have capicolla and salami sandwiches along with the meatball, turkey, and pastrami sandwiches. on 3277 n san fernando road.
a few miles away Dave's Chillin and Grillin serves some sandwiches though not as dandy as Big Tummy. heard some posts on chowhound about tremendous sandwiches here and nice special sandwiches like the crab melt (which was not on the menu or the specials board, though closest thing would be the tuna melt). the menu didn't look that exciting just simple sandwiches so i cold the turkey sandwich, they were out of a much heralded special supplier for their meatball sandwiches. and the turkey sandwich was all right though nothing exceptional, did i order wrong or what. the joint bills itself as healthy with leaner meats and all but where's the taste.
