Although the term "big shrimps" sounds like an oxymoron, I decided to check out this place in downtown Monrovia. It's a casual place where you order at the counter, get a number, find a table, and wait for your order.
As the name implies, they serve many versions of shrimp: cocktail, breaded, pan-seared, grilled, etc. They also serve grilled fish as well. We ordered the grilled Atlantic salmon ($9.95) and grilled snapper ($7.95). We opted for the garlic butter instead of the Cajun seasoning. Those came with seasoned rice and coleslaw. My little one ordered fish sticks ($2.75) off the kid's menu.
The fish was very fresh--I was pleasantly surprised. The fish sticks were also most likely prepared on the premises because they were fried with batter, not bread crumbs. The sweet potato fries were okay, but at least they were fried to order. They were too hot to eat when the order arrived.
I'll admit we didn't get that many items, but the first impression was good enough to warrant a future visit. The main thing that appeals to me is the freshness of the fish.
They also have seafood tacos, burritos, soups, and salads.
If you want great ambiance, this isn't the place. After all, they use disposable plates and silverware. But at least they use good quality paper and plastic unlike some of the other places I've been to. It's moderately priced, with prices ranging from about $7 to $15 (average price is about $8) per entree. Fortunately, for all you fellow frugal hounds out there, the non-bottled water is free.
