Big Island food recommendations (and places to avoid)

asd12 | Feb 18, 201802:23 PM     2

I will be there on a week-long family vacation this summer on the Big Island and would love some recommendations (and foods to try) as well as places to avoid. I noticed that there was a thread about this 2 years back, but there was no update on how the restaurants were. I'm hoping people who have been there recently or are from the Big Island could provide any information or recommendations.

I've been looking online and it seems the most comprehensive and recent information is for Honolulu. Of all larger islands, the Big Island has the least information. I'm not sure if it's an indication of the food scene (or lack of) or the dearth of restaurants beyond the tourist traps. Any feedback would be appreciated!
