Oh happy days! Spring is here and that means that B&B has returned to the farmers' market. B&B produces, IMHO, the best eggs in the Bay Area. Better than Three Wise Hens, better than Art Davis, even better than the much loved Marin Sun Farms. Giant, bright gold yolks with a creamy, dreamy texture and an incredible depth of flavor. I'm so spoiled by these babies that I have trouble eating any other eggs.
Of course, as with so much great chow, there is a catch. They only sell at the Berkeley Saturday market and they will only come to one market per month. In their typical non-commital fashion they said they will be at the first or second market of each month. Probably the first, unless it rains, in which case it will be the second, unless it rains both times. (They drive here all the way from Leggit in north Mendocino county, about an 8 hour round trip commute) Fortunately, their eggs will keep in the pantry for a month (do not refrigerate - it kills the flavor!) so I can stock up and get my fix.
If you love eggs as much as I do, drop by the Berkeley market and see if you can get lucky (if they're not there you can at least find some comfort in Fatted Calf.)
A couple of fried eggs, a loaf of Acme bread and a pad of Lurpak butter and I am in eggstacy.
