According to a story in this week's A-B Tab, the Allston Shaw's at Packards Corner is in the process of putting a beer and wine store into the space that used to be the Starbucks. It's going to be run by Douglas Gordon, who ran Bradley Liquor in the Fenway. It will be a completely separate enterprise from the supermarket itself (much like that beer and wine store inside the Shaw's at Brighton Mills) and it won't be selling kegs.
It still needs approval from the city and the liquor board, but the Allston Civic Association has given unanimous approval, which probably helps pave that considerably. Personally, I fully support this -- It would be nice to be able to grab a bottle of wine or a six pack for dinner while doing my grocery shopping, and since the idiot students have had no problem getting beer and wine before this, I don't see how it could make it easier for them.
