Beef Stewed in White Wine

My roommate swears she once made a delicious recipe from Saveur magazine which involved stewing a pot roast (or similar cut of meat) with white wine and carrots. Has anyone ever had any experience with such a dish? I'm intrigued, but somehow the flavors just don't seem right.. or do they?
