Yep, I know I'm a broken record...Just braved the line at bazaar; it's Russian Day Chez Galleygirl!
Got wonderful barely pickled herring in sweet onions, the fillets so lightly marinated it's sashimi-esque, almost like "neue" herring. A few minor bones, but easy to remove; worth it for the quality...
Some of the storemade ajvar, or eggplant caviar and red pepper dip, so heavy on the garlic that the Commodore will tease me mercilessly tonite; but totally worth it!
And the big score, today's homemade soup was vegetarian borscht...A total delite; a beet base broth with eggplant, carrot, cabbage, pickle(!) some potato, and tons of dill.....Man, this is a total veggie alert, actually, probably the tastiest vegan soup I've ever eaten...
