I was reading about different preferences for this product among people familiar with the Basmati rice. This is some information, which requires further research. I believe, for better crop yield and other economical considerations, many brands of Basmati are GMO type grains, which is being cultivated today in South Asia. So finding a brand which is not genetically modified grain will resolve the quality problems. Now, the imported food items, are not required to be identified as GMO products on the supermarket shelves, hence the question of which brand is all GMO grains, or GMO grains mixed with aged Basmati natural grains making this more complicated.
The Royal Basmati Rice, from Kusha Foods to my experience, is seriously inferior product. The grain size is acceptable, but the lack of nutty flavor and the texture of finished product is infinitely inferior. I tried using it, as pre-soaked refrigerated grain for a few days in salt water as well as boil and drain steamed method of preparation. All failed. The grains very quickly in the process disintegrated. Almost like making a pilaf with broken rice grains. Not a good thing.So the research is needed to distinguish the genuine grain of Basmati from Genetically Modified organism grains.
