So we went down to the barclay steakhouse on last night,
The renovation of the space was well done, very warm Library kind of feel.
bathrooms were typical Starr unisex setup.
The wood panelling in the front room was flawlessly restored, with the exception of the cheesy looking brass bar, great place to have a drink.
Typical steakhouse fare with some higher end items... had a Kobe steak that was delicious,40 ish dollars, all the sides are $8...ok to good with creamed spinach being best. Sauces are a la carte and $3 each. A good variety though some were just not steak compatible.
Mini hamburgers are quite good.
Shrimp Cocktail was way too expensive...3 shrimp for $20..ish as i recall. Had a bottle of Kistler Chardonnay for $125..ish..not too bad.
Wine list was ok, basic selections with a few stars, why would you put a 2001 Chateu Lafite on a menu in 2004 ???
Drink prices were outrageous, Kir Royal was $18
Cosmopolitans were $20.....absurd even if the Vodka was distilled by 15 year old Russian virgins.
Overall....would I go back......Yes cause it's in such close proximity but I consider it a special occasion/expense account dining place.
The place is not bad and neither is the food but it is just so expensive.
Only pet peeve .......for the prices they should have tablecloths and better stewmware in the dining room.
