I'm always looking for early weekend lunch spots. Too often brunch is just some lame egg dishes that have no semblance to the rest of the menu. Today we checked out Barcelona, which opens at 11 and serves most of its tapas dishes. Missing unfortunately were some of the my favorite tapas dishes, such as bacalao, gambas ajillo and calamari. We did order tortilla espanola, chorizo w/ figs, biscuit w/ apple butter, hangar steak, spicy beef empanadas, patatas bravas, grilled cheese (from the kids menu), albondigas, and duck confit salad. They do a pretty good tortilla espanola, chorizo, and biscuits - which were buttery and moist. The restaurant is beautiful and they're set up for outdoor dining even in the winter, with blankets and braziers for those hearty romantics.
It's pretty amazing how many good restaurants are around 14th & U.
