Melanie, Ruth and I met at Barbacco 220 California near Battery For Last Lunch before 2018...

A beautifully designed space..modern yet warm and inviting....We naturally ordered for the Table...
First a large Chef's Choice salumi selection...4 types with the requisite accoutrements...these were varied flavor wise..I enjoyed them, but not having much experience with salumi, others will offer their more knowledgeable opinions. We had a beautiful plate of oil poached tuna salad..greens, fresh french beans, lima sized beans, served with an aioli, and lemon vinaigrette. This was a refreshing counterpoint to the more meaty component of the salumi...I would have enjoyed more..and we ordered the large size ...but not to worry, more was to come... 3 large deliciously sauced meatballs came to the table...loved these....Sicilian style with pine nuts and raisins..also the Pasta came at the same time...huge and chewy pasta Paccheri...new type for me but great texture. This also came with a more subdued sauce....which I combined with the meatballs and sauce...why? ...'cause I'm an Amurican, an' I can (!)

Our side of roast (?) brussel sprouts were crispy on the edges with good bite in the center. Fullll!! But still room for a shared desert...An unusually silkin Pannacotta, (chestnut) with preserved...was it guava? I forgot..First bite for me was a little disconcerting...as the crunchy component..was actually large...saline...salt crystals,,,not expected by and not for me...when I worked around the "Dead Sea" the REAL crunchy component appeared...popped rice..nice! The panacotta needed more of a chestnut punch..it was too subtle...the guava (?) and silky custard was the best part.

Within a half hour of our arrival the place filled with pleasant, convivial and not overly loud....lunchers from the 'hood. Overall a VERY pleasant experience shared with 2 of my very favorite Chowhounders....!
