Bar Americain - review

So I had dinner at Bar Americain last night. And suffice it to say I was not blown away. The restaurant is beautiful and very comfortable. THe food is good but not amazing. The clam chowder was tasty and different but not the orgasmic experience that had been related to me. The shrimp and grits were very good however you have to laugh when you see how small the serving is. i was to be honest, insulted. $14 for four very tiny shrimp and about three spoonfuls of was flavorful but not nearly enough.
The entrees were very very good, duck was out of this world, with the pecans and dirty rice with foie gras. The hanger steak was very nicely spiced and the sauce for dipping was really interesting. Cauliflower and goat cheese was an interesting mix and very yummy, for lack of a better word.
However service competely ruined the dinner. it was slow and spotty and and they brought the check over 15 minutes after giving us the dessert menu and then asked if we wanted dessert. All around out of 10 I would say 6.5 the service really blew the dinner.
