Baoguette Bistro moves to Kerrisdale

grayelf | Aug 15, 201605:27 PM     21

Early days but I had a really good banh mi nem nuong there today. Not really good for the west side, just really good. A bit pricier, befitting the higher rent they're paying in the old Avenue Grill location, but good value at $5.25. The baguette was well within required parameters, better than Banh Mi Saigon but not as good as Ba Le or Kim Chau. Much more meat, with grilled chunks of nem nuong served hot -- they might even make their own. I asked them to add jalapenos and they gladly did, lots of them. This sandwich filled me up more than many of the usual suspects on the east side, comparable to the Banh Mi Saigon volume and heft but for me superior in taste and execution. I'll be back to try more at this cheerful, tidy and busy establishment, which also has many of the Vietnamese dishes you tend to see (pho, bun, rolls etc) that looked good on other tables.
