Just a few updates on some bakeries I have been hitting lately:
Truly Jorg, Saugus
Bottom line, eh.
Clearly a wedding cake and catering place that is trying to do a pastry shop. Very pretty shop, nice design. Neglibly few pastries in their case, <4 varieties. I found photos on line that had much more in their cases. I bet they are not getting the traffic for the bakery and are focusing on wedding cakes and catering. Some of the pastries looked like they were leftover scraps from wedding cakes turned into "pastries." I tried the most involved looking pastry, two or three kinds of mousse with chocolate on top. It was good, but no way worth the trip! In fact, as far as I am concerned, not even worth pulling off route 1 next time I drive by. I wanted to like the place.
Was there with some hounds lately, almost everything up to snuff. Though Limster ordered a Black Forest pastry that I think did not rock his world. It looked milk chocolate based and kind of boring. When it comes to chocolate at Athan's I always stick with the Jamaica.
Yi Soon Bakers
112 Brighton Avenue, Allston
Stopped in again. Their selection keeps growing. The place had several Chinese ladies buying the place out. They have some really remarkable Hong Kong style pastries. Run, don't walk! This place is new and unique. None of the other Chinese bakeries in Boston is like this place. The quality in everything they do is obvious. The savory items are probably more notable then the sweet. The prices are excellent!
Whew, I need a nap all this eating is exhausting ;-).
