Does anyone bake fresh pannetone?

Well, it's that time of year again, and I'm off in search of a wonderful pannetone. I've never actually met a pannetone that I didn't like, but last year I got a fancy one from Italy that knocked the socks off the competition. I hear that the company that made it went out of business. :-(

On the theory that fresh baked products must taste better than one that has crossed an ocean to get here, is there anyone around here that sells fresh pannetone that's wonderful? Or is my theory wrong, and I should buy the nicest import I can find?
