Two of had a leisurely lunch at Azafrán yesterday and we loved the place. I thought my friend's choice of carrot salad was exasperating, but it was loaded with cilantro and had a bracing edge of piquillo peppers. We shared shrimp sautéed in olive oil, garlic and red pepper and the garlic enveloped us and made us glad all over. The shrimps were perfectly cooked, too, not at all the way they turn out when I slaughter them. There were Manchego cheese croquettes with béchamel that melted in the mouth and sea bass patties in a yoghurt sauce with chopped chilies and mint, delicious! We considered the white sangria but it seemed like a rosé kind of day, and we enjoyed the one the affable waiter suggested very much. There is a nice selection of cheeses, too, and the cabrales certainly tugged at me, but you just have to know when to throw in the napkin. The chef came out to chat with us and we traded horror stories about the blackout (well, okay, we didn't actually have any, but the waiter did). They have flamenco on Weds nights and jazz on Thurs, too, and I think both would be a good time (okay, well, not the flamenco, for me ). We look forward to going back.
