I'm planning a very special birthday dinner for my best friend. He loves to savour small multiple course chef's tasting menu with wine pairing rather than picking a la carte and mega-size entrees. My dilemma is, within the past 3 months, he had eaten in Splendido, Perigee and George!! In addition, he dislikes Susur because of Susur's arrogant atitude and overprice 'Chinese-fusion' style cuisine. When one considers all the 'selection criteria', I'm left with a very short list of Avalon, Canoe and Scaramouche. Though they are all 4-stars calibre, unfortunately, in the past, I have had dissappointing experiences with all of them and I'm afraid a repeat inconsistent 'off-night' by the kitchen/chef might spoil our evening. Any feedback and input from fellow chowhounds based on recent experiences (particularly food quality) would be most welcome. Did I overlook any other potential candidates? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have till next monday to make my final decision.
