I have had occasion to eat at Supermercado Jalisco, 2957 Atlanta Road in Smyrna's Jonquil Plaza Shopping Center several times in the last few weeks, and I am growing increasingly fond of their food. One of my earliest experiences there was menudo (served on Saturday and Sunday only) and I was disappointed, but everything else has been excellent. I have tended to eat burritos and sandwiches mostly, along with a Mexican soft drink. The burrito pollo (chicken) and burrito asada (steak) are the best I have ever had. Their torta pollo (chicken sandwich) is a favorite, also. A couple of days ago I had 2 tacos asada, and they were quite good also.

Has anyone else eaten here? I know there are numerous excellent places for Mexican food around the area. Several have been discovered through Chowhounds, but I found this one on my own. They also have locations on Beaver Ruin in Norcross and on Clayton Street in Lawrenceville. The Smyrna store is staffed mostly by English speakers, but not totally. One of the cooks, the youngest, speaks very little English - but has been very pleasantly helpful in encouraging me to order correctly in Spanish.

If you have room after having eaten here, try a piece of tecolate (I think that is the name). It is a chunk of what appears to be baked glazed sweet potato. The several that I have eaten are so smooth and creamy, even though it is clearly a chunk of peeled sweet potato, that I would think I was eating a piece of pie without a crust.
