Arnold Drive Strawberry Stand

Was up in Glen Ellen and Sonoma today, visiting father and stepmom who took hubby and me to the Carneros Heritage Festival as a much belated birthday present....will try and write more about the festival when I come out of my bbq'd lamb-and-pinot stupor, but in the meantime wanted to mention that on the way home at Stepmom's urging we stopped at a strawberry stand at the NE corner of Arnold Drive and Watmaugh Road (a few miles south of Glen Ellen)...

If the place has a name it isn't signed anywhere, (and I didn't ask, I felt dumb enough asking where the berries where grown and then having to listen to Stepmom snicker and point to the field of plants loaded with berries right next to us. but hey, I'd had a fair amount of wine after all...).

In any case, it might be a bit hard to spot from Arnold since the entrance is on Watmaugh, but worth a stop! These are some of if not the best strawberries I've had this year; Sweet and ripe, undoubtably picked today. Stepmom and I split a six box flat, cost for the flat was about $9.50.

I managed to resist the temptation of buying some of strawberry jam on display, only because I rarely use jam and have a lot at home already. Probably a dumb move to resist: it was a perfect jewelled red and looked delicious. The young woman working the stand told me she had made the jam herself.

Fortunately given my wine consumption hubby was driving, but as it was the smell of those strawberries was intoxicating for the drive home...
