Had dinner at Aquavit this past Saturday. Big big disappointment.
First, the waiter was amateurish and overly condescending. I had two Finns and a Swede in the party who speak impeccable English, yet the waiter spoke to them in that loud, " I am speaking louder so you can understand me" tone.
The food was not anywhere as exciting or interesting, as I would have hoped, having followed the chef on TV for years now. I had the sweetbreads as an app, which were OK, but entree of duck breast with fois gras was tiny, underflavored, and had no detectable fois gras.
The portions were far too small entirely. I am not expecting huge portions, but 4 slices of duck breast or 4 slices of seared tuna is a rip off.
The worst part was the bus boy who tried to whisk each diner's plate away the second it appeared they were finished. One of my guests and I had ours taken while we still had food on our plate that we intended to eat.
I had hoped that this branch of a NY 4 star would live up to its' home base's reputation. No such luck.
