APJ Texas Weiners (thanks!)

After a recommendation on this board thought I’d try the hotdogs at “APJ Texas Weiners” and thanks again hounds for a good tip. The place is on 13th between Filbert and Arch (47 North 13th to be exact) and it’s got lots of personality, very old-school smoky diner feel, complete with waitress calling you ‘hun’ (as in honey, not Attila) and a counter with stools. It’s a total cop hangout too.

I got the Texas Weiner ($1.50), which comes with a spicy mustard, chili and onions, split in half on a very good hotdog bun (definitely from a bakery and not a supermarket). Dog itself was spiced somehow, maybe a chili powder or paprika spice, not sure, sort of salty too. Dog might have been smoked as well. Meant to ask the manufacturer but forgot.

Also tried the Texas Tommy ($2.50) which is served with bacon and cheese, which I preferred to the regular Texas Weiner. Bacon was really good, kinda thick with lots of flavor, with melted white American cheese. Same dog and bun as the regular Texas weiner.

They’ve got a full menu of other basic sort of offerings (cheesesteaks, burgers, hoagies) as well as a breakfast menu (they open at 6am). I don’t think I’d ever deviate from the dogs, though maybe to try their chili cheesesteak.
