Ate at Antonio's new location in NW Austin last night with several friends and was quite disappointed. The old Antonio's was a relatively inexpensive dive Mexican restaurant off of Jollyville with decent food and cheap drinks. The new location off of 183 is nicer inside but is still serving a similar menu, jacked the prices up and got rid of the drink specials ($1 Tecate on Tues? gone). Let's get to the food......had the carne guisada plate. The meat was tender and not too fatty, but the fixin's and sides were just okay. The friends had chicken tacos and beef fajita tacos. The chicken taco plate came without the sides (kitchen mixup) and the beef fajita tacos came with only 2 tacos instead of 3 as specified by the menu (again, kitchen mixup). The chicken tacos were pretty plain, and the beef fajita tacos were on the dry side.
Overall, not too impressed. As a dive Mexican restaurant with cheap drinks and food, the old Antonios was right on. But by keeping the same food, hiking up the prices and getting rid of the drink specials they're missing the mark.
