I ate at a south Indian restaraunt called Annapurna Cuisine on Venice Blvd., about 2 blocks east of Motor Ave. on Friday night. I had a sambar soup starter, a delicious broth made with lentils and a spicey kick. For main course I ate a sampler of different attapum, a lentil and rice 'fritter' flavored with a variety of ingredients such as tomato, onion, cilantro and other spices. My girlfriend had the mysore masala dosa, another fried pastry filled with potato and hot spices. Both dishes were served with a green coconut sambar and more of the lentil soup as a sauce. Food was tastey, service was fast and friendly, and the ambience was ecclectic with plastic countertops and bollywood movies playing on the walls. Total cost was $30 for the both of us. There was a pretty extensive menu which included curries and other Indian food which I am interested in trying or hearing more about. We stuck to the south Indian food and were happy with our meal.
FYI, we had tried to head to this place on a Monday night and it was closed.
