Just wanted to thank Anna Sobor for the heads up on the newly remodeled Andy's Deli on N Milwaukee. While I have been a regular, though infrequent, customer of both Milwaukee Ave Andy's I had not stopped at the newly remodeled location until her post reminded me.
I have been three or four times and each time am amazed at quality, selection and price. Andy's now has an extensive prepared foods counter, with a small eat-in area, and everything I have tried has been excellent.
The old standbys of Polish sausage sausage, borscht, pickle and sauerkraut soup are good as always, as well as stuffed cabbage, but items that are either new, or I did not notice before, such as a baked roast of succulent bone in bacon or any number of cutlets are delicious.
In addition to sausage, both fresh and smoked, bacon, fresh meat and sliced sandwich meat I have been trying a few new dairy selections. Most notably Jana Butter, which was discussed recently on the General Topics board by Melanie Wong. I picked up on the thread as I have a tendency to read anything Melanie W writes.
Jana butter is excellent, easily comparable to Plugra and at $1.79 for 8-oz costs quite a bit less. I also tried a few different types of yogurt, including Serek, or is it Ostrowia, one name is the brand, one means blueberry, Anna? Either way, the flavor is very good and the consistency is almost cheese like, my wife compared it to European yogurt.
It is also possible to put together a quick, delicious, inexpensive prepared dinner at Andy's Deli, which we did Friday. Andy's Deli now accepts credit cards and has it's own parking lot directly South of the store.
