I recall seeing this in Virginia grocery stores as a kid. It was pricey but my grandmother bought it for spreading on crackers or making sandwiches when she wanted to treat herself.
I recall it contained Smithfield country ham and peanuts. Can't remember any other ingredients but it was of a pastelike consistency; actually kind of difficult to spread on bread and salty as the dickens.
Do any of you know if it is still produced? I have attached an ad for it and a pic of a jar of it but can't find it anywhere. There was also a James River Brand Smithfield Deviled Ham Spread that tasted the same and came in one of those small jars with a pry-off cap like Kraft refrigerated cheese spreads.
The original company in the ad is a conglomeration of other companies now, none of whom seem to produce it. If anyone knows of a source, or if anyone who remembers the taste can suggest recipe clones, I'd appreciate it.
