Last Night- Great Food - Crummy Service
Might be nice to put a sign by the door saying...Seat Yourself... as 2/3s of the people walking in the door last night looked lost until they figured it out. And, hey the food's great... but, this was Saturday night and the place was half empty, so it's not like they have all the business they need and can ignore customers who are not regulars.
I don't want ingratiating, overly fawning service. I like going to a counter, ordering and avoiding the whole "I am your server tonight routine". But I had a really difficult time just ordering 2 simple dishes, though I started out with eye contact and thought I was being clear and pointed to the menu items as I said " LUDHIANA CHICKEN, NAN , SAAG PANEER, RICE, SWEET LASSI " and he repeated the same back to me.
They mixed up our paneer order, forgot the rice. We had to request a refund, on principle, on the overcharged paneer, and at this point we looked at the computer print out and saw that he had input the wrong order. Oh and we had tipped generously in the first place, so my point is not that I want super cheap food, just, THE FOOD I ORDER! And , unlike all the other tables, nobody brought us a pitcher of water.
Both the counter guy taking the order, and the server, were just really unfriendly, and the girl who brought out the lassi was not smiling either. I have gotten take out before, the food was great and service has been pretty friendly and ordinary, so I had wanted to come back and eat in. I am not sure what the deal is and this will not keep me from going again , cause the food is great, even if they continue treat me as untouchable as if I HAD walked into an Indian truck stop.
Which of the vegie dishes are as outstanding as the stews and the Ludhiana Chicken? The Saag Paneeer was OK but not great.
