Way too tired to head into Brookline, so I got takeout last night from our only "go-to" Thai place in Newton. Tod Man appetizer, Pad Thai (vegetarian) and a vegetable red curry. Just your basics. It was just so mediocre! The tod man used to come with a nice little cucumber salad and veggie garnishes along with a dipping sauce. It was just slapped into a too-large container and came with a dipping sauce that included a few token cucumber bits. Both entrees completely lacked in any flavor whatsoever. The curry had absolutely no heat (not even the usual Americanized amount) and the sauce was strangely separated, with thin liquid and solids floating.
This is clearly a departure from the high quality I have come to expect over the past 7-8 years. I know I ordered rather dull things, but these are usually executed and presented well, even for takeout. Did their chef leave? Are they cutting back quality due to the economy? I don't get it, and I'm sad!
