anyone have an alternative to candied yams?
when i made the obligatory candied yams for last year's thanksgiving potluck (i'm in charge of that dish again this year), it was the basic recipe that calls for globs of canned yams covered with marshmallows, brown sugar and butter. by the time we got there, the marshmallows had predictably melted into the mess. i hate this dish.
BUT i'm SURE there's hope for yams (canned, preferrably). i need a dish that's similar to candied yams (sweet), but not with marshmallows. i'm thinking there must be something like yams mashed with something or another like apples and baked to make the top appetizingly crunchy. Hey, there's an idea - maybe even a yam "cobbler", with topping that includes pecans.
anyway, any other recipes? please share! thnx!!
