What an embarassment for us Full Kee boosters...Next time, we will make sure it is better.
Seriously, this is one of the problems with almost any restaurant--lack of consistency: something that we have been able to avoid most of the time (although we have had a few bad experiences at Full Kee, even though we are known)).
But I am not suprised about the problem with the conch (where can you get good conch nowadays?; the same thing happens with the squid--which tends to rubberly and bland. The leek flowers are usually more consistent--one of our favorites. We have not yet done the frogs....
Next time, let's hope they have soft shells...Also try the oyster and ginger casserole, the chicken and eggplant casserole, pork and bean curd in black bean sauce, whole fried shrimp (head on), and the wonderful Hong Kong style wonton soup (no noodles). If we are lucky, they will have flounder steamed with ginger and scallions.
We were there last night--the soft-shells weren't in yet, but they were expecting them--and the chicken with eggplant, the pork and bean curd, and the shrimp dumpling soup were all excellent.
In fact we have had problems there on weekends in the past--Saturday night especially--so there is no sure fire way to predict.
Give us some notice next time and we will get a big party so we can try everything.
