We had a fantastic dinner at Alloro last Saturday as we were on a weekend getaway. We stayed at the Madonna Inn (yes I no, weird but you gotta do in!) and had their terrific breakfast, then went down to visit a friend who was racking Pinot at his winery.
After a rest, we made the short trip up to Paso for a 7pm reservation. Disclaimer - we have met the chef/owner and are part of an online wine discussion group so consider him a friend.
Anyhow, we had a starter of clams in tomato broth that was very very good, albeit a bit spicy for my personal tastes. The bread with tomato "salsa"? is excellent as well. We brought a corkage, plus had some bonus pours of a local zinfandel, so hubby had mixed grill - a huge plate of excellent meats: italian sausage, lamb chop & veal chop, all prepared wonderfully. I enjoyed veal scallopine with fresh mozz cheese, tomatoes and eggplant. It was sooo good, it was like veal parm without the crust.
Gelato for dessert - pistacio, hazelut, pumpkin and "the best chocolate ever" according to our 5 year old.
All in all a great meal, great service.
