Our little town just got a new Mega Mall with Aldi, Dick's, Buffalo Wild Wings, 5 Below and Christmas Tree shop along with Starbucks and a Vitamin shop.
Phew!!! Except for the wing place which I am not crazy about, I can't figure out why they take so long to make a few wings. They also charge for celery and blue cheese dip. Sorry I am digressing.
Decided to try Aldi. Sorry but it's a little strange. More than a little strange really.
I needed 4 things, Heinz Ketchup, Hellman's Mayo, Hershey almond chocolate bar and Ben & Jerry ice cream.
I grabbed my shopping bag from my car. I didn't need a cart but I snagged one that someone left in the far reaches of the lot. I like to park far away from the door so I get both exercise and a "pull thru" spot. I slipped the cart in at the entrance and was rewarded with a quarter. Oh baby!! My lucky day. I am rthe kind of guy who picks up pennies on the sidewalk.
I went in and strolled the aisles. No Heinz but they did have lounge chair cushions next to the store brand ketchup, or was it "Catsup?" No Hellman's either but there were potted plants next to the mayo. Lots of odd ball Euro candy bars but no Hershey almond. No B&J ice cream. By this time I figure it out. Not many name brands.
The prices seemed reasonable but there were no great bargains. I did buy some gluten free crackers for my Greek Goddess.
Conversation with the cashier about the name brand thingy: "Our store brands are made by the same people and we offer a full refund if you are not satisfied." Thanks but no thanks. You have to buy your own bag at checkout. Glad I bought my own.
As much as I'd like, I can't see a reason to return to Aldi's.
For what it's worth the place was not very busy. Lots of competition in town.
I may troll the parking lot for quarter filled shopping wagons on my lunch break.
