Albina and a Note on Barking Rd

JFores | Jun 7, 200911:06 AM

I walked Barking Rd and went to Albina on the way back from the gym today (completely at random.) Albina has an interesting enough interior (think Eurovision) and the staff are quite friendly, but there's almost no English spoken. Also, the menu is quite vague in its English details. Enough about that, I ordered the solianka and it was fantastic. It was also 5 pounds making it outrageously overpriced. I'd be willing to give the place another shot but the prices are really extortionate. They're serving excellent homestyle food but the prices really do border on robbery, especially for the area (we're talking my home neighborhood of Canning Town which is in the top 2% in the UK for just about every negative thing you can name.)

On a much more positive note, Barking Rd has incredible pickings. I've noted down a Peshwari (specifically Peshwari) restaurant that I need to try and the stretch has Congolese, Ghanan, Nigerian, Angolan, and Jamaican restaurants.
