Al-Baraka Buffet

Flynn | Apr 22, 2003 02:12 PM

Just returned from an all-you-can eat "Mediterrean & Turkish Cuisine" buffet lunch at Al-Baraka, 154 E. 55 St., bet. 3rd & Lexington Ave.

At first I thought the food was Indian because they have a chicken tandoori-type dish. The spices were a little different yet very good. They have another chicken dish that's boneless, a couple of lamb dishes which I didn't try, saffron rice, spinach, eggplant, salads, dips and soup. Naan type bread is served at the table. For desserts they have rice pudding with chopped pistachio on top, almond cake and a fresh fruit platter consisting of sliced cantaloupe, grapes and sliced oranges.

I felt this was a very good deal for $9.95 plus tax. They add a gratuity of $1.49 to the check (guess the waiters have been stiffed in the past) and I left another $1 for the wait staff who are polite and attentive. A very good deal for this expensive midtown area.
