Affordable Hotel in Paris?

dixieday | Jan 16, 2003 03:42 AM

Going to Paris from Italy for a few days at the end of March with 2 30-something friends. Last time I was there I stayed at a friend's apt, so I don't know the hotel scene. Any suggestions? Looking for something fairly close to the middle of things but not hugely touristic--maybe in the 6th or 7th, or the Marais?
Would love it if it was under 150 euros a night (for a double); in fact ,the more under, the better. Can deal with bathroom-down-the-hall if necessary, if it's a clean place with some charm. Looking for Frenchness and charm rather than tons of American-style amenities--don't need TV or fax machines! Thanks!
For anyone else going to Paris, don't miss the fab apple tarts at Poilane, or the chaussons de pomme and croissants at Laduree. I weep thinking of them here....And the organic market at the Blvd. Raspail on Sunday mornings is awesome. Don't miss the nice American guy with a portable oven hot banana bread and carrot cake if you're feeling homesick...Or the freshly made potato pancakes....
