Need Some Advice Getting Back to Bare Iron.....Debuyer

Was at my little brothers for the holidays and took back home his poorly seasoned DEB pan - figuered I'd help him out...

Whaddys suggest on getting it back to bare iron.
The sides are way too black and thick - and the pan surface is actually somewhat decent with a nice flat smoothing middle brown/grey seasoned surface.....

I did a overnight spray of Oven Cleaner and gave the sides a good scour with a sponge but that did not make a dent. It made it a little bit better, but did not get me back to raw iron. I'm inclined to take a steel sponge to it next...

Any other suggestions on getting back to a clean base
