My beautiful wife and I found ourselves in a whirlwind 30 hours in Portsmouth and had the pleasure of going to 3 restaurants for lunch (2) and dinner (1)
Day 1 lunch : BG's Boathouse, on the deck. Excellent fried clams and scallops, great service. We were close to being the only ones there at a slightly later hour and the service and food were superb.Paper plates and plastic glasses but the food more than made up for it. Opt for the onion rings rather than the fries and you won't be disappointed. Fish eye Pinot Grigio went great with the food
Dinner day 1: Green Monkey. One of the top 5 meals that I have ever had. We had a grilled romaine salad with pancetta that was unbelievable. Perfect balance. My wife had the espresso crusted filet which was outstanding but the meal of the trip was the Asian short ribs......crusty with exotic flavors throughout. I tasted mandarin, hoisin, ginger and more and they came together like magic. I just couldn't stop eating even after I was seemingly sated. I could go to this place every night. Service was terrific. We each had a glass of an unbelievably fruity red called the Show. The rest of the list was incredible. GO HERE TODAY!
Day 2 lunch" It was a beautiful day and and we wanted to sit outside so we went to Ceres St to the deck at the Oarhouse. Split the lobster spring rolls, crab cakes and some raw oysters. The crab cakes were unremarkable; too much filler but decent flavor. The spring rolls were excellent as were the oysters, very fresh and briny. They tasted like Damariscotta oysters but the server didn't know where they were from. With the sun on us and the water view, we didn't really care.
We had planned to be there another day but life had other plans so we had to to head for home but thoroughly enjoyed our time in Portsmouth and can't wait to go back.
