Hit 29 Newbury on Friday night not having been there for a long time. Ate there for the al fresco dining.
Had drinks at the bar to start... $10.50 for a martini, ouch.
They told us they had a brand new chef fresh from the Cordon Bleu (I think).
Split some oysters for apps, they were very fresh.
For mains I had a really excellent Halibut roulade (don't know what the filling of the roulade was) that was really excellent. It was on a bed of jasmine rice with coconut milk sauce. The dish held together really well.
A lot of the items on the menu are asian fusiony.
My buddy had broiled scallops that were unfortunately forgettable. There was no discernable sauce at all. The only vegetables were swiss chard stems cut into pieces and piled onto the rice. Quite frankly, the dish was just bleh.
Anyhow, a place that was never really a culinary star, with a new chef... I do it again for the al fresco. On a rainy day, perhaps somewhere else. The restaurant inside was completely empty.
