The summer solstice—the longest day of the year—is June 21, but in Sweden, Midsommar Eve falls on the Friday closest to the solstice. Remnants of what once was a pagan fertility festival are still expressed with dances around a maypole and some tremendous feasting on the first fresh foods of the season.
