It may not be obvious from our Portland chocolate video, but David Briggs makes his chocolates in the back of the southeast Portland sandwich shop Meat Cheese Bread. Convenient for us, since we had MCB on our list of places to eat.
The green bean sandwich was the least traditional-sounding of all its sandwiches, so I was curious what the deal was. It was a smart combo of grilled green beans, “bacon relish” (kinda more like a bacon vinaigrette, tangy with tiny meat chunks), shaved Parmesan, aioli, and a warm soft-boiled egg thrown in the mix. It was all smashed into a soft homemade ciabattalike roll—perfect for trapping egg yolk as it oozed out. Plus, the sandwich was only eight bucks, and big enough for two meals.
