Tribeca’s Soda Shop, just entering its first summer, serves up cooling treats with a dollop of nostalgia. Traditional standards like ice cream sodas and fresh cherry limeade are specialties at this old-fashioned sweets parlor from the owner of the now-closed Be-Speckled Trout in the Village.
There’s also a limited menu of sandwiches and other savory bites–good, basic food, reasonably priced, says jenny. Vintage fixtures and furnishings–including fountain heads reportedly salvaged from a long-defunct creamery inside the old Plaza Hotel–help set the old-time mood. “Awesome place–your kids will love it!” promises rose.
However, hounds are divided over the shop’s egg cream. guttergourmet says it’s among New York’s best; stuartlafonda finds it a milk- and chocolate-heavy slog.
