Bananas are a gym rat’s best friend. They’re portable, versatile, and contain a great balance of potassium and energy for your workout. Not to mention, they can turn into HEALTHY ICE CREAM!

I’m often looking for great recipes that won’t negate the work I just did at the gym (can someone make a zero calorie gin and tonic already?!) and bananas are one of the easy foundations to help me stay on track. They’re always available (even at hotels or schools!) and inexpensive, and I always have a few on the counter fruit bowl at all times.

Alas, sometimes I’m just craving something a little more interesting than simply eating them as is, monkey style. This roundup will give you a series of adaptable options you can customize to your personal brand of whole30, paleo, clean eating, etc.

1. Chocolate Covered Banana Bites

Skinny Mom

Grab your swolemate and make a big batch of these to keep in the freezer. Future you will thank you. There’s nothing that derails clean eating faster than the right before bed late night snacking. Keeping this handy will nip that in the bud. Get the recipe here.

2. English Muffin with Bruleed Banana

There is no more perfect trinity of pre-gym snacks than the bread/banana/nut butter. Somehow, I never thought to brulee the bananas though! This recipe elevates that trinity to a truly glorious snack heaven. Get our English Muffin with Bruleed Banana recipe.

3. Banana Sushi

Fit Foodie Finds

Banana sushi is endlessly customizable – any type of nut, or even granola or puffed rice cereal will work. This version is extra photo-friendly for your #cleaneats instabrags. Plus eating it with chopsticks makes it easier to pace yourself. Get the recipe here.

4. No-Bake Banana Bread Bites

The Big Man's World

No-bake balls like this have become ubiquitous for fitness folks. They come together in a flash and you can’t burn them! Get the recipe here.

5. Nutella Banana Crepe

Crepe batter uses a lot of egg, so there is a good amount of protein in this indulgent looking dish. Another option is to simply sub the crepe with a whole-wheat wrap or tortilla for the same effect. Their foldability here is the key making them ideal for transporting or eating on the go! Get our Nutella Banana Crepe recipe.

6. Skinny Mocha Banana Crunch

Whole and Heavenly Oven

ICE CREAM! Didn’t think it could ever be guilt free, did you? Turns out it just takes freezing a few extra-ripe bananas and then tossing them in the food processor for a quick whizz and BANG! Amazingly creamy frozen treats that are totally healthy! Get the recipe here.

7. Banana Boat Foster

The beauty of this one is that you can make it on the stovetop or the great outdoors. It also makes it a breeze to skip the s’mores on a camping trip to temptation! Get our Banana Boat Foster recipe.

8.  Flourless Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Mini Blender Muffins

Averie Cooks

My personally favorite in this batch, I’ve made and consumed hundreds of these delicious muffins. They freeze beautifully, so grabbing one out of the freezer and tossing it into your gym bag means it’s ready to eat when you’ve finished your workout! They stay incredibly moist and are stupid easy to make – just put all the ingredients in a blender. It’s like baking a smoothie. Get the recipe here.
