If you live in the City of Angels and butter is your vice of choice, listen up. CHOW readers have uncovered the top spots, from farmers’ markets to grocery stores to restaurants, to score a taste of high-quality butter in LA.
Chowhound MAK47 gives the best butter award to beurre de baratte (fermented cream butter) from renowned French cheesemaker Rodolphe Le Meunier. Several LA restaurants agree—you can taste the fromager’s handiwork at Mélisse, République, Trois Mec, and Providence.
Larsen’s Creamery, Spring Hill, and Ferrarini all get positive mentions too. McClelland’s European-style butter from the Milkman Stand at the Sunday Mar Vista farmers’ market gets a special shout-out (Dommy calls it “beautiful butter”). If you can’t wait for the weekend, you can also find this organic, Northern California–made butter at DTLA Cheese, which sells buffalo-milk butter as well.
