The San Francisco Chronicle‘s Inside Scoop blog recently broke the news that Manfred Wrembel, a former chef de cuisine at Incanto, took over the top position at Plum in Oakland. Plum’s menu, which had been divided into “snacks,” “vegetables and grains,” and “animal,” will now follow a traditional format of appetizers and main courses. Naturally, Chowhounds have a lot to say about the news. There’s bbulkow, who worries that the move means that Plum will no longer challenge diners with an unusual format. But Ruth Lafler thinks the old menu was elitist, appealing only to diners sophisticated enough to navigate it. She thinks the change could actually make Plum more accessible.
