Seafood Paradise is the best upscale seafood market in San Gabriel Valley, says J.L. That’s saying a lot, given the SGV’s appreciation for pristine, Chinese-style seafood. The prices are a bit high, but everything is impeccably fresh, with zero fishy smell—in fact, much of the inventory is still alive, in tanks.

If you want something ordinary like tilapia, you might be better off at one of the standard Asian supermarkets in the area. “But if you want … mantis shrimp or fresh eel … then you need to visit this place,” says J.L. “This is my go-to source for cockles,” adds ipsedixit.
