For anyone who's battling a cold, as rose water did this month, Lee Lee's chicken soup is just what the doctor ordered. This Harlem bakery, best known for its sweets, brews a thick, comforting broth sweetened by carrot and filled with misshapen dumplings and big chunks of chicken—or, sometimes, potato and acorn squash. "Totally hit the spot," rose water says.
At the other end of Manhattan, foodwhisperer found terrific Vietnamese chicken soup at Viet Café. Its pho ga contains rice noodles and slices of chicken in an herb-scented broth flavored with cilantro, scallions, and lime—"really good," says foodwhisperer.
